Curiosa I & II (2002)
The work, Curiosa (I & II), directly references 19th century natural history display. True to that form, a diversity of butterfly and beetle specimens are displayed. In Curiosa I (butterflies), the specimens are comprised of hand-painted photographs of eyes that hold and return the viewer’s gaze. In Curiosa II (beetles), the viewer becomes the voyeur, as they examine close-up various human physical interactions, some tender, some sexual, some violent.
