True Confessions of a Fortune Junkie (1996)
The piece, True Confessions of a Fortune Junkie, was created in response to an invitation to participate in a traveling exhibition titled, “The Commemorative Cup”. It takes the form of a fortune telling/tealeaf reading cup. The saucer shape is rendered in multiple palmistry images, that hold Chinese fortune cookie fortunes. In lieu of fortunes, the sad, but humorous confessions, are printed on the fortune “papers” (rendered in silver). These confessions, reveal a narrative of someone who has relinquished control over their life and commemorates the moment when they take it back.
